Support and Advice
Carthvean Alpacas offer what we believe to be an unrivalled aftercare service. We love all our animals and want to make sure that they are going to be looked after in the best possible way. We will teach you all you need to know and offer extensive support and advice to ensure that you are happy with your animal and are completely comfortable with its care.
We teach our animals to pick their feet up so that you can toenail trim them without unnecessary ‘wrestling’. We will show you how to give injections and how to worm them. If you live locally, you can bring your animal to us for shearing or we will come out to you at shearing time, we thoroughly recommend our shearer who covers the West Country (see links).
If you have any behavioural or handling issues with your alpacas or llamas, Julie is happy to advise and support you in learning about how to handle your animal in a way which is efficient, respectful and fun - the guiding principles of Marty McGee Bennett’s Camelidynamics work. Our animals are all halter trained and will lead before they come to you. They will load and unload from a trailer happily. Any animal sold comes with a free
place on a Camelidynamics Training course on how to handle and manage them.
We recommend that you oin the Cornwall Camelid Association, an
organisation which will put you in touch with other owners near
you, let you know about forthcoming courses and events and is a
way of letting you talk ‘camelid’ with other owners without
driving your friends and workmates crazy with your new
obsession. Contact Andrew Taylor-Browne on
andrewtaylorbrowne@fastmail.fm for more information and a
membership form.
We normally have a number of males available for stud services at Carthvean Farm and are able to provide on farm mating (your girl stays with us until scanning confirms their pregnancy)
and drive by mating (you bring your girl to us to mate with
the stud here) Prices vary on what method you select and which male you select, but are normally between £600 and £900. We work in conjunction with the prize winning Langaton Alpacas herd and use their
prize winning stud males.
